Hi I'm Jon, the person behind TogetherMG

My story

In 2022, I was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis. Like many people, I suddenly had to adjust to a life shaped by fluctuating symptoms, fatigue, and uncertainty.

Finding clear, practical information was often difficult, so I returned to university to study UX and web design. That journey led me to create Together MG, an app designed from lived experience for people with Myasthenia Gravis, their families, carers, and support networks.

I live in beautiful Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, with my wife and our Chihuahua, Jack, who very much rules the house. When my health allows, I also love getting out for a ride on my Ducati.

This website documents the process of building Together MG: what I am learning, the challenges along the way, and why accessible design matters.

Why?

My ambition is to give people living with MG the ability to walk into a doctor’s appointment with meaningful data that shows what they are experiencing day to day.

Our symptoms are real, even when they cannot be seen during a short appointment. We are not textbook cases or a list of clinical symptoms. We are people, partners, parents, friends and loved ones whose lives have been changed forever.

I am also the Secretary of MG NSW, which has given me an even deeper understanding of the challenges faced by people living with MG, their families and carers.

Together MG is being built to help patients record their symptoms, recognise patterns and communicate their experiences more clearly, so they can feel heard, understood and better supported.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any ideas to make Together MG great for everyone!
